I have always believed in the innate
ability of women to give birth, so my goal is simply to facilitate women in the
discovery of their own abilities, support them in determining
and achieving the type of experience they want, and stand witness as they go
through the process of becoming mothers.
As much as I believe in women's power to birth, I
believe in the power and importance of their partner's presence.
Partners are not incompetent during birth; quite the opposite. A
woman's partner is most often the most important support and influence she
will have, will be the only person who can speak on her behalf, and loves
her better than anyone else can. Because of this, I don't believe a
partner should be expected to be a labor coach but rather should be given
the space and support to have his/her own emotional, physical, and spiritual
experience of becoming a parent.
Birth is a transforming
process. I have personally experienced and
witnessed the emotional, psychological
and spiritual impact it has on myself, and other women and their families.
I am passionate about the process of birth and the transformation it
brings. It is my privilege as an
educator, doula, and counselor to support women and their families and friends
in that process.
