ENCIRCLE  BIRTH DOULA  WORKSHOPS

enCircle Birth Doula Workshops are a unique format for preparing you to be a doula.   The  small-group format allows for in-depth discussion of topics and more individualized attention than a large class can offer.  You will literally 'sit in circle' and be enCircled as we explore the significance of birth, modern birth practices, the doula's role, and much more.  The small-group setting is especially designed for those who:

  • learn best in a smaller class size

  • prefer dialog-based and interactive learning over lecture-based learning

  • are open to learning and sharing with others in your group

  • want to be able to ask questions and get answers

  • are ready to delve into self-awareness and understanding of group dynamics

The Fall 2010  workshop will meet on Tuesdays, September 14, 21, 28, October 4, 11, 25, November 2 & 9, 2010, from 9:30am-4:00pm at Big Belly Services in Seattle, WA.

Be prepared to do a bit of 'homework' each week to build on your doula skills, and to do a lot of sharing in our time together.

A maximum of 10 women will be enrolled in the group so that we can sit in circle and facilitate deep learning and understanding of the material being covered.

Throughout history, women have supported other women during pregnancy,  childbirth, and postpartum.  For many women today, birth can be a lonely and frightening experience, attended by strangers.  The modern remedy for this tragic situation is the ‘doula’ – a knowledgeable, experienced companion who is trained to provide emotional and physical support, encouragement and wisdom for pregnant women and their families.

In this workshop, the art of birth support and the sacredness of birth will be shared and celebrated.  Whether you are planning to work professionally as a doula, or want some understanding and skills to support a friend or sister in labor, or simply want to connect with the power, magic and mystery of the birth process, this workshop will be an extraordinary journey exploring the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of womanhood, pregnancy, and birth.

The workshop will combine dialog-based learning with experiential learning, short lecture, art, movement, story-telling, and ritual.

Participants are required to read three books prior to attending the workshop.  Click here for pre-requisites.

This workshop has been approved to meet both the 'Introduction to Childbirth' (12 hours) and

'Birth Doula Workshop' (16 hours) components required as two steps toward certification by  DONA (DONA International, the world’s premier doula organization).
