In 1988, she began training as a childbirth instructor with Bates Technical
College; however, life circumstances detoured her from that path for 15
years! In 2003, Angie again signed up for the training at Bates, this time
completing the 18 month program, and becoming certified by the International
Childbirth Education Association (ICCE) in 2005. She began teaching with
Great Starts in April of 2005 and for the UW Medical Center in November of
2005.
As part of Angie’s childbirth instructor training, she was required to
attend Birth Doula training. Having never heard of doulas before, she was
thrilled with the training! She became a certified birth doula with PALS in
2004, and plans to train as a Postpartum Doula in 2007.
In June of 2006, Angie attended the Birthing From Within Level I Mentor
Training with Pam England and is currently enrolled in the
certification program.
Angie is also certified in the Prenatal Parenting program and is a member of
the Association for Pre and Perinatal Psychology and Health. Angie is
fascinated and humbled by our babies’ intelligence and awareness, while
still in the womb and once they arrive. She believes that this knowledge is
vital to a more peaceful, loving, and cooperative society and thus, weaves
this information into her childbirth preparation instruction and doula
work. She hopes someday to attend the Santa Barbara Institute’s Pre and
Perinatal Psychology certification program.
